Professional Profile
Throughout my career and life I have had the opportunity to teach and train people from all walks of life. I have discovered my passion lies in working to understand the specific needs of each group or person I work with, and how to best meet those needs through the curriculum I develop and the training I deliver.
Employment
• Instructional Technologist 2009-2010
Most recently I worked at Xango with the director of Corporate Training to develop and deliver e-training materials to their network of over a million independent distributors. I was involved in, and responsible for, compensation plan training materials from idea conception through final delivery.
Allen Communications
• Instructional Designer 2008-2009
Worked with a team developing E-learning courses for multiple Fortune 500 companies. My last project was a large-scale roll out of E-training and ILT courses for Pfizer Pharmaceutical, including a number of Adobe captivate produced modules.
I was hired by Allen primarily to provide content and theory. Scripts, quizzes, etc. At the outset of my time with Allen, I did mostly create content, but where I really came into my own was when I started to bridge the gap between content and delivery technology. I learned to use the authoring and LMS tools that they employed, and so gained a better understading of, and control over the projects I worked on from conceptualization to implementation.
• Co-founder January 2006-2008
Worked as part of a development team to build the principle and practical base on which all LIFE trainings are founded
• Youth Program Facilitator Summer 2006 and 2007
Lead facilitator and trainer
Developed effective training curriculum and delivery methods
Managed a staff of trainers, facilitators and coordinators
• Co-facilitator LIFE Marriage Retreats February 2007-March 2008
Developed and delivered multiple “classroom” training segments
Responsible for delivery and success of experiential based training segments
• Lead Coordinator LIFE Marriage Retreats February 2007-March 2008
Supervised on and off-site logistics for all trainings and retreat
My time with LIFE Trainings was all about finding my voice as a trainer and facilitator. I learned to find and understand the needs of my trainees on a deep, intrinsic level. I found that as I became more adept at understanding people’s real learning needs, I was better able to tailor fit my training to those needs, and bring about powerful change and learning.
LIFE is also where I came to understand the power of experiential learning. I saw for myself the difference between teaching someone a concept in a classroom setting, versus structuring and providing an opportunity to learn that same concept through experience, or well crafted story. The former results in understanding, the latter results in change.
Novell
• On-site coordinator 2000 to 2001
Organized on-site logistics for nationwide computer training tour
Helped coordinate setup, registration and proctoring efforts
Working with Novell’s “Hot Lab” tours was what first opened my eyes to the rewards of the training field. I worked with very talented trainers, who were well versed in the technology they trained for, but more importantly, they excelled at relating to their audience in a way that built credibility and trust.
